How the calculators work
Each calculator takes field dimensions, applies trade-standard waste factors, and returns a materials list: quantities, sizes, and national-baseline cost ranges. Waste defaults come from industry convention, not guesswork. Override them when local conditions call for it.
Formulas are drawn from published sources: ACI for concrete, IRC for stairs and fire separations, ASTM for masonry and fencing, IECC for insulation R-values, university extension services for landscape materials. Source links appear on every calculator page.
Calculators handle rectangular areas and standard geometries. L-shapes, curves, and multi-section layouts: break them into rectangles, run each one, sum the totals. Round once at the job total, not per section.
